Looking presentable isn't taste. It's the absence of things that read as neglect.

A guide for men who have never been told any of this directly. The thesis: there is a threshold. Below it you are marked down heavily; above it, almost nobody is looking. So the goal is not to become handsome — it's the shortest distance to clearing the line, and then stopping. Eight items, ordered by how much each one moves.

What's insideHow it's structured

Eight items, in order of effect

Hair → brows, nose and beard → clothing fit → skin → glasses → posture → smell → expression. Each carries an effect rating and an effort rating, so you can see where the cheap wins are. Finishing the top three already changes how people respond.

The premise: people read maintenance, not features

First impressions form in roughly 0.1 seconds (Willis & Todorov, 2006). Nothing about bone structure is legible in that time. What is legible is whether you appear to be looking after yourself — and that is changeable today.

Facial exercises and mirror technique

Five drills, three minutes total. The most important one is using your eyes: people judge whether a smile is genuine by the muscles around the eye, not the mouth. And the thing to study in the mirror is your neutral face, since that is what others see 90% of the time.

Where it refuses to overclaim

Evidence for facial exercises reducing apparent age is a 20-week study with 16 participants (Alam et al., 2018). The page says so, and limits the stated purpose accordingly.

What not to bother with

An explicit section. Expensive multi-step skincare, changing hairstyles often, adding fragrance, crash dieting, and following content designed to make you anxious. Most guides never tell you where to stop. This one does.

When it isn't about appearance

If low mood has lasted more than two weeks, or the energy to groom at all is missing, the page says plainly that this is not an appearance problem and points to rest or a clinician instead.

LanguageReading this in English

The guide is written in Japanese. The structure is largely visual — ordered items with effect and effort ratings, and a self-check that outputs a prioritised list — so it is partly usable regardless. A full English edition is planned.

How this site handles translation

We don't machine-translate pages and publish them as if they were written in English. When an English edition exists, it has been written in English. Until then, this page tells you honestly what is on the other side of the link.

Everything on this site is free and has no paywall, in either language.
